Pointe de Cray, back to the Pays-d'Enhaut

An Ascension Day hike, a gentle return to Emmanuelle's childhood in the Pays-d'Enhaut. And a climb that is anything but a short stroll: nearly 1,300 metres, straight up.

The climb

Straight up

The path leaves Château-d'Œx and climbs without detours, through the forest and then the steep slopes, with the village and the valley shrinking at every bend.

Higher up, the meadows are white with narcissi. At the end of May, the Pays-d'Enhaut is in full bloom, the Prealps peaks still marbled with snow.

On the ridge

The Pays-d'Enhaut at our feet

The ridge runs towards the Pointe de Cray between two slopes, with late snowfields in the gullies. Views everywhere: the valley, the Prealps, white peaks in the distance.

On the way down, the alp's pigs soak up the sun, a cow poses by a small lake in the valley. A true Ascension Day.
