The ridges

From Valerette to Valère

We climb between the firs, where a cow rests in the shade, then through meadows of purple gentians, with the Rhône plain below. The cross on the Pointe de Valerette rises into a perfectly blue sky.

The route then runs along grassy ridges, narrow and clean, facing the Dents du Midi that fill the whole horizon. Green valleys drop away on both sides.

Chalin

Below the rock walls

At the foot of the great rock walls, the little Chalin refuge, perched among scree and snowfields, with the Rhône plain stretching to Lake Geneva.

On the way back, a griffon vulture circles above the peaks. Asters bloom along the path, facing the Dents du Midi. Pushing past our limits, simply sublime.
