Mont de l'Arpille, mushrooms and Mont Blanc

A day with a friend, setting off at 7 in the morning with a clear goal: finding mushrooms. And as a bonus, one of the finest balconies over Mont Blanc and the Rhône valley.

The climb

Hunting for mushrooms

At 7 o'clock we head up to the starting point, in the morning light over the valley. The scene is set for the fine day ahead.

Mushrooms hide among the bilberries. We climb, the spot has to be earned, between larches and facing the snowy peaks.

The summit

A magical little plateau

At the top: a magical little plateau, with wooden snow fences shaping the landscape. Mont Blanc looks so close.

The view drops down to Martigny and the Rhône valley. And on the way back, a very fine haul of chanterelles.
