The logical direction

Chains first

2 August, the last guaranteed fine day for a while: a sure thing, sold. On a Sunday there are people, and many walk the loop clockwise. Why? Chains at the start, the descent via Anzeindaz at the end: the logic seems obvious to us.

From Solalex the path climbs beneath the great smooth slabs of the Argentine, that limestone mirror throwing back the light.

The way back

La Vare, edelweiss and a cream cone

The break at La Vare is as gentle as ever, four edelweiss are blooming just before the Col des Essets, and the Anzeindaz valley opens out below the Diablerets.

The descent to Solalex is endless, year after year. But a cream-filled cone, a childhood memory of Christian's, waits at the finish.
