The route

Bilberries and stone pines

Visperterminen, the Heida village, has kept its old granaries and storehouses. The flower-decked chairlift drops us into an already autumnal mood: bilberries, heather, stone pines and larches, then a wide open plateau.

The Gibidumsee appears, plain and lovely, ringed with russet grasses and fireweed. Greyish weather, holidays over: hardly anyone. And the sun comes out just for us. On the yellow signposts an idea is already taking root: Simplon-Dorf, six hours ten.
