The climb

Above Trient

Setting off between hay bales at the bottom of the valley, greeted by a Hérens cow. The path climbs through larches clinging to the slope, below great rock walls.

Higher up, the clouds part now and then over the Émosson dam on the other side of the valley. Emmanuelle stops facing the Trient glacier, reaching down at the far end.

Chamois and fireweed

The Trient valley spreads out below the path, with the glacier tongue at its end. A chamois crosses the grassy slope, arnica grows among the stones.

Pink fireweed blooms on the pasture, the Émosson dam vanishes into the mist, and the glacier hides beneath the clouds for the end of the loop.
