Pointe de Bellevue via the Combe de Dreveneuse

One of those Saturdays we love: the Pointe de Bellevue by its quietest side, the Combe de Dreveneuse, straight up through the scree. A fine, solitary experience, and a view that lives up to its name.

The hollow

Sheep and scree

It starts in a pretty meadow, then the stony ground of the Combe de Dreveneuse takes over. A big flock of sheep and four guard dogs to get round, not very aggressive, but we have never walked so fast.

At the back of the hollow you have to find your way through the scree, straight up, skirting the little peak on the left. It climbs, it rolls underfoot, fun and playful.

The summit

Bellevue lives up to its name

The view drops onto the sheep pasture, then onto Chavalon, Villeneuve, Chillon, Montreux and Vevey, with the whole of Lake Geneva.

At the top, the victory pose. The view is incredible, and climbing from this side is a fine solitary experience, because the other side is a very busy grassy motorway.
