A superb discovery above Nax: a loop around Mont Noble, with its ascent to finish. 16 kilometres, 1,100 metres of climbing, facing the whole of the Valais Alps.

The loop
Stone pines and scree
The path starts from a small alpine lake, passes blooming rhododendrons and winds between Swiss stone pines, facing the snowy peaks on the other side of the Rhône.
Then come fields of big boulders, streams of meltwater and hollows still white at the end of June.
The summit
The cornice and the Madonna
The final ascent follows the ridge, where a long snow cornice still clings on. We walk beside it, with the drop on one side and the valley on the other.
Gentians, moss campion and arnica among the stones, then the statue of the Madonna on the summit of Mont Noble, at 2,654 metres. A superb discovery.
