Grandeur cannot be described, it has to be walked

A loop devised by the specialist: up the right-hand side to the pass, between gneiss slabs polished by glaciers and small lakes mirroring the sky. The bog grass is already turning russet, and cairns stand on the rock humps.

The way down follows the old Roman road, whose flagstones still hold, two thousand years later, laid one by one into the slope. Thirteen kilometres, six hundred metres of climbing, and the urge to do it all again.
