Pierre Avoi in the gold of the larches

Late October, a lovely walk far from life's worries: Pierre Avoi raises its rock tooth above a sea of clouds and a forest of blazing larches.

The climb

Above the sea of clouds

The path climbs through larches already turning russet, while the Rhône plain sleeps under a sea of clouds. Then Pierre Avoi appears, a pale rock spire shooting up from the pastures like a steeple.

From the foot of the rock, the view drops on one side towards Martigny and the plain, on the other towards the Valais Alps, sharp as a drawing.

The forest

Everything is gold

The descent passes back through the forest. The larches form golden vaults, the autumn light shines through, and the rock tooth shows itself again between two trunks.

Nothing to do but walk slowly and look. Exactly what was needed.
